A gorgeous weekend

After all the stormy weather, we've had some really lovely sunny days. The wind has been almost non-existant, and the days have had hardly a cloud in the sky.

Saturday night I headed into the city with a couple of friends for an overnight stay and a fun evening out.

On Sunday, Simon took the kids out for the day walking, picnicking, playing in the playground, and ice creams.

That evening we headed down to one of our local beach accesses where there was a opening ceremony for a new walkway to the beach (previously there was no access and it was a bit of a scrubby bank for anyone game enough to venture down). The event pulled in quite a turn out of locals. We arrived just before sunset; it started with the ceremony, then some braziers were lit for marshmallow toasting. There had been hope for bonfires on the beach, except the winter tides have been bringing the water in too far even in low tide. We didn't stay too long as the kids were a bit tired from their busy day out, but later on people got their drums and guitars out.
