A bit of a photo catch up on what we've been up to - strangely, I forgot to get my camera out on Christmas day (except for one sneaky photo further down)!).
Trying out the auto-timer on the camera - off for Simon's Christmas work do.
Christmas Day - I found my mother on Simon's borrowed unicycle and just had to snap a shot.
Busy kids using Christmas presents.
Hanging out with friends at the river. Unfortunately too much rain had come down in the previous few days so the river was too fast and swollen for swimming in. Didn't stop them finding large (and hot from the sun beating down) puddles to swim in instead..
Some spontaneous foraging happened as we were out - I put all the kids to work helping me gather these red clover blossoms up.
OK, so a bit late for the Christmas just gone, but in my blog-reading (I wish I knew where it was because it was a link from a link and I can't remember where I was!) a few nights back I spotted this. How handy was it that I had a few large pieces of hessian I'd received for Christmas (which was a bit puzzling at the time, but I'm happy to have found a use for some of it!) lying around so made this right there and then.
I harvested all my garlic and was very happy with the result. My braiding isn't the flashest, so the last bunch ended up just being tied together.
As you can see through the boy and the sunflower that the garden has been very neglected and isn't really doing much!
Bamboo Chicken tractor still going strong 2.5yrs later. The only cost to us for this was the chicken wire.
VERY happy with our strawberries this year. We love picking a few a day.
And looky there! I thought I'd killed off my tamarillo tree with the winter frosts, but it seems that there are some fruit forming.

Your mom on the unicycle is a hoot!
I like your garlic braiding - I think it looks nice.
Have a wonderful evening and a fabulous 2010 Nikki. I harvested some garlic for tonight's basil pesto because I'd rather do that than buy some, but I find that waiting until late January works best for garlic at my place. December was very wet and we need some dry heat (which we usually get in January) to boost garlic size and keeping qualities.
Thanks Sarah! Yeah, it holds together ok, so I guess that's the main thing. I think I should practice some braiding through the year for next years lot though lol.
Sandra, I was thinking about leaving mine in for longer since last years lot was quite small at this time. However, when I dug away the soil from several bulbs a few days back I realised they were done afterall and only a few small bulbs out of it all. Hope you get a good harvest too!
Happy New Year Nikki!!!!
