This afternoon I found some time to cut out the squares (from old pillow slips and a few pieces of Danielle's clothing that no longer fit) and got sewing! Was really quick once I'd done the cutting. Initially I was going to back it with some polar fleece, but then decided it would be more portable if it just had a sheet as the backing and top stitched the patchwork onto it. I can always add the polar fleece later if needed.

Ohhh Nice! I love the colour /patter combo you managed to get. Beautiful.
I have this is in the plans, too-- a picnic blanket from favorite things the babes wore. Lovely!!
oooh have you caught the quilting bug???
Love Leanne
VERY cool. I wonder about backing it with a cheapie plastic (boo hiss) tablecloth to give you some waterproofing?
Thanks everyone! I'm such a one time crafter lol ie. I make something once and then move on and find something new to do. Would be nice to have the staying power to find a craft to always have on the go though...
Sha, I did wonder about some sort of waterproof backing (hence the polar fleece), and actually I think I may have some awful bed underlay that is a bit crunchy that would probaly work well for this. Hmmm, will hunt it out this afternoon.
