An awesome vege box delivery!

Over spring our organic vege boxes have been a little bit lacking and fairly repetitive and basic.

However, I was excited on Thursday to open it up and discover a few new seasonal additions.

Fresh garlic bulbs. Hmmm, the tops haven't dried up, so imagine I just need to dry them myself and then braid? Or suppose I could chop the green tops up and eat? Anyone know? I am almost ready to harvest my own garlics which I was excited to discover most have grown lovely big bulbs (a month back I was worried they were coming to nothing, but the bulbs must have just developed).

A long cucumber - yum! I made a lovely fresh salad last night with cubes of cucumber, cubes of tomato and cubes of avocado. Squeezed a whole lemon over the lot as a dressing. Very nice and looks lovely with the colour contrasts! The kids both liked it too (well, Nathan ate the avocado and Danielle discovered she like the cucumber).

Plums! Mmmm. Shame my own tree is on an off year and the few plums that are in the tree are being eaten by the birds...

And some sort of radish things...

While intently reading the post... when I got to the end, I wondered what kind of plum eating critter... "some sort of radish" thing was... Sometimes, I'm just too dense and literal, then my mind comes back...*: )

LOL, yes rereading it now I can see how it was all thoughts just dropping out of my head without thinking how they were placed on the page! Glad you figured it out, those radishes are quite annoying for eating my plums!

Hello
I just thought i would let you know about my garlic attempts...
We grow in SA and we grow a lot of garlic for the local markets... Ours too, up until about a month ago nothing much but now it has well filled out and are huge... mostly in what they class as the colossal range 70-74mm.
It is drying out now but I like to braid it while its green as its a bit more flexible, but i also use the green bits in cooking and it hasn't killed us yet. I just use as much of the green bit til I think it looks to manky to eat.
Hope this helps you but i think its just experiment and then do what works best for you.

We get "green garlic" in our CSA occasionally. Yes, you can eat the tops. Are those radishes or Harukei turnips? They look like the white turnips we get - usually pretty mild and sweet, great for using raw in salads.
