Kids and peak oil

Well, with the price of petrol having hit the $2 per litre mark, it really has given us a little jolt here. Not too sure why, it's not like the leap to $2 was suddenly up from $1 or anything. I guess it's the psychological effect of it moving into the next dollar up.

Now, it's not like I spend time talking of doom and gloom to the kids (we focus on the positive things that we're doing to enhance our life) - but Nathan's aware of why we don't just leap in the car and go places on a whim, how petrol prices are rising and how one day just driving around may not be an option at all.

So today, while playing with his lego, he was wanting me to help him build a house. Then he was struggling with building a car to go with it and getting quite a bit frustrated with it for breaking. Me, kind of getting to the end of my tether with the screaming said "hey, maybe you don't need a car if there is no petrol to fill it with?". His reply "Well this car HAS petrol!". LOL. I thought afterwards, that my choice of words were a reflection of having read over at Sharon's earlier on and her conscious choice to buy a lego house set with solar panels (hehe) and no car garage...lol.
