An egg, an egg!
I was so excited to see one today! Over summer two out of the three chickens got broody and sat on the nest for almost 3mths - so we were down to one egg over that time. Then one of the chickens laid an egg and the next day she died - possibly dehydration from sitting on the nest too much (despite me taking her off the nest several times a day to get food and water). Then we went away on holiday for 10 days towards the end of March - my chicken carers were retrieving one egg a day. Upon our return there were then no longer any more eggs and the reason soon became clear - the two remaining chickens started to moult with Autumn arriving. So...that started 8wks ago almost to the day, and just the other night I was googling how long they would be off the lay for and read from 2-3mths. So it was nice timing to have an egg waiting down for us there today. Let's hope that both of them are back into production!

Great news, it must be so great having your own eggs, and they taste so much better. Our playgroup teacher has chooks and was saying they haven't had pancakes or any home baking for weeks because the chooks aren't laying. Fingers crossed there'll be pancakes at your house this long weekend!
