Spring is in the air...

It's peeking its head out more and more. The house is warming up to a lovely temperature during the day where we haven't even felt the need for a fire the last few nights.

We did squeeze in a lovely winter holiday (mixed with very spring weather as well!) last week though.

Now, bring on the longer and warmer days!

The spring growth and flowers have been gradually making themselves known over the past 3-4wks.

Anyone know what these are? They open quite wide and are more of a royal purple than deep blue.

I am quite jealous Nikki as it doesn't feel very near to spring down here in Canterbury. My daffodils are only just starting to come up out of the ground, although my other bulbs are further along in pots on the deck it must be said.

The purple beauties are anemones, part of the Ranunculus or buttercup family. Love them!

Thanks Bron. Haven't heard of anemones, I'm assuming they came from a packet of wild flower seeds I sprinkled in there earlier in the year?

I'm hoping I haven't jinxed myself with hoping spring is just around the corner. I'm sure there will be the odd wintery blast or frosty morning to keep me in check lol.

Nova, yeah my strawberries flowered all the way through too lol - wasn't sure if that was normal or not since they are only coming up a year old. Some of the berries look like they're all growing bigger too.

Was GREAT to catch up with you too!

We have anemones here. There are two widely available kinds and though I forget the name of the second, we always grow St Brigid's anemones for the name.

Sandra, ah I wonder if that's what the 2nd lot of flowers that have come up with similar leaves? It has similar velvety leaves, only the petal structure is more like a gerbera?
