I bought some seeds from ecoseeds last night in hopes of being able to start seed-saving (need to do some reading up on that - I'm sure I have a book or two (or 3 or 4) that has instructions for doing this.
I have some more garlic cloves to pop in the ground with it being winter solstice (well, yesterday actually, but we were out of the house from 10am-7pm so not a lot of time to do that!).
More rain has arrived today to water my garden - just as I was thinking yesterday that it was getting a bit dry down there again (and I don't have my roof water feeding into the water trough this time of year since it doesn't get used often enough and gets all gross and slimy).
Have attended another Transition Towns meeting - plenty of chit chat about food production - a shame I will miss the next workshop day in a few weeks which is really going to focus on food.
Have made a few more face-to-face connections with people I can talk about these issues with instead of only relying on the internet (as much as I appreciate my blog-mates where I gather energy , knowledge and a sense of belonging!)

heh heh snap! 'cept i just coughed up to join the koanga institute to gain access to their special stuff ;) so i've just ordered two types of potato, some garlic & some comfrey :)
so what did you get? details please!
I got several varieties of tomatoes, cauli, broccoli, cabbage, silverbeet, scarlett runners, peas, carrots, beetroots - think that was it!
I've had some good crops from my ecoseeds and I even saved some this year! The easy ones though lol sweet peas, beans and sunflowers ;>
Did you get "Egmont gold" carrots? They've done well for me and I had a chat with someone in Commonsense who reckoned that they are very reliable.
A while ago you talked about growing more beans for drying I think? Are you still doing that? I'm trying to decide what to plant. At the moment I think I'm going to try cannelini and borlotti beans specifically for drying. Better start getting seeds organised!
That it is good to hear about the ecoseeds Anoushka!
I did get the egmont gold's - glad I made a good guess there lol. They sounded good in the description.
I was going to save beans etc, but my crops were very poor so didn't see value in saving my 6 seeds lol and I think the kids played with them till they disappeared somewhere. I definitely want to grow a good protein source and I think beans will be the go for now. Where will you get your borlotti and cannelini's from? Kings?
I spent a lovely time on a very wet day making a list of wanted seeds from eco seeds and dreaming of spring planting. I'm so keen to get going. We plan to put in 3 raised beds so we can plant a lot more veges. This will be good as we can put in compost rich soil as our soil is coastal sand! Our house is on the market so I am trying to decide whether to go ahead (and live) or wait to early spring in case we get a buyer. On second thoughts it could be a selling point! The real estate market is super flat here. Hmmmm, what to do?
